DESIGN CONCEPT

Design Concept
  • The initial form of the amphitheater began with an “S” shape of an egret wing as an open pavilion design. A 100mm diameter bamboo pole is utilized for the framing structure of the roof with canvas sheeting.

  • The “S” shape of the pavilion roof is used as the outline of the walls instead, so that the amphitheater has surrounding walls.

  • The amphitheater was further developed to a much smaller scale, accommodating 40 occupants. The form retains its shape.

  • The amphitheater's shape was redefined, and a roof was added to keep the sun's heat out. Instead of traditional seating, wooden swings are used to allow children to mimic the experience of birds perching on branches.

  • The form is drastically altered to a dome structure as building technicalities are taken into account.

  • The arches, inspired by the shape of an egret’s wing, represent the entrance of the people, while the opening above represents the entrance of the birds, as this amphitheater brings together both human and bird species.
